Individual Counseling- Students may be seen by grade level counselors for individual counseling sessions through teacher, parent or self-referral. Students may receive individual counseling up to six sessions on a particular topic before a referral for outside counseling is made. Individual counseling may include traditional counseling techniques or play therapy.
Group Counseling- Counselors will form need-based small counseling groups throughout the school year. These groups are psycho-educational in nature, which allows students to learn and practice new skills in a safe setting. Classroom Counseling Lessons- Each class at BES will receive classroom counseling lessons a minimum of eight times during the school year. These lessons average out to one visit per classroom per month. Lessons are 30 minutes long and range in topics from friendship skills, study skills, anti-bullying, emotional regulation and other related subjects. These lessons are also based on grade level needs. Parent Consultation-Parents are able to contact the school counselors to make appointments for consultations about various concerns for their child. Consultations may include a plan for services at the school level, or a referral to outside agencies. Referrals- Counselors have access to referral information for outside agencies for a wide variety of family needs. We are happy to facilitate a referral when needed. 504 Coordination- BES counselors also serve as the school's 504 coordinators. If your child has a 504 plan already, we will contact you when the plan needs to be renewed. If you wish to review your child's existing 504 plan, you may do so at any time. To establish a new 504 plan, please contact your child's grade level counselor for more information on that process. McKinney-Vento Coordination- BES counselors also serve as the coordinators for the federal McKinney-Vento program, assisting families who have lost their housing. |
